The author proves theorems about the minimum number of generators \(\mu(I)\) where \(I\subset A\) is a height two ideal and \(A\) is a noetherian (local) domain with the assumption that \(A/I\) is Cohen-Macaulay. These bounds depend on \(A/I\) (though the author seems to claim otherwise) since they depend on the type of \(A/I\), which is the number of generators of \(\omega_{A/I}\), the dualizing module. The main improvement in this paper from previous results in this direction is that these bounds are valid even when \(A\) is not Cohen-Macaulay.
