In any dimension \(n\), Pachner moves \(h \to n+2-h\) (for \(1\leq h\leq n+1\)) are elementary re-buildings of a manifold triangulation, with the property that a suitable sequence of them enables to transform any triangulation of a fixed manifold \(M^n\) into any other triangulation of \(M^n\). Algebraic relations between quantities of geometric origin, corresponding in a natural way to Pachner moves in dimension 3 and 4, have already been obtained in previous papers; see, for example [\textit{I. G. Korepanov}, J. Nonlinear Math. Phys. 8, 196--210 (2001; Zbl 0986.57008), \textit{I. G. Korepanov} and \textit{E. V. Martyushev}, ibid. 9, 86--98 (2002; Zbl 1017.57008), \textit{I. G. Korepanov}, Theor. Math. Phys. 131, No. 3, 765--774 (2002; Zbl 1042.57011) and \textit{I. G. Korepanov}, ibid. 133, No. 1, 1338--1347 (2002; Zbl 1083.57020)] . The present paper constructs an algebraic relation corresponding to the Pachner move \(3 \to 3\) on a triangulation of a 4-manifold; it generalizes the pentagonal equation, naturally related to move \(2 \to 3\) on a triangulation of a 3-manifold, but -- a bit paradoxically -- it is based on affine volume preserving geometry in a three-dimensional space \(\mathbb R^3\).
