    Let \(\mathbf G\) be an absolutely simple affine algebraic group defined over a local field \(\mathbb{F}\) of characteristic zero which is \(\mathbb{F}\)-isotropic, let \(G\) be a finite topological central extension of \(\mathbf G_\mathbb{F}\), the group of \(\mathbb{F}\)-points of \(\mathbf G\), and let \(K\) be a maximal compact subgroup of \(G\). A (continuous) unitary representation \(\pi\) of \(G\) in a (complex) Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}_\pi\) is \textit{strongly} \(L^p\) if and only if \((\pi(\cdot)v,v) \in L^p(G,\lambda)\) for any vector \(v\) of the set of \(K\)-finite vectors in \(\mathcal{H}_\pi\), where \((\cdot,\cdot)\) is the inner product of \(\mathcal{H}_\pi\) and \(\lambda\) is the Haar measure on \(G\). The \textit{minimal decay} \(p(G)\) of \(G\) is the smallest real number such that any irreducible infinite-dimensional unitary representation \(\pi\) of \(G\) is strongly \(L^q\) for all \(q > p(G)\). The author uses the definition of rank of an irreducible unitary representation \(\pi\) of \(G\), introduced in a previous work [\textit{H. Salmasian}, Duke Math. J. 136, 1--49 (2007; Zbl 1111.22013)], and generalizes from the non-archimedean to the archimedean case the notion of a (weakly) minimal representation [\textit{W. T. Gan} and \textit{G. Savin}, Represent. Theory 9, 46--93 (2005; Zbl 1092.22012)] in such a way that \(\pi\) is minimal if and only if it is of rank one. Then he analyzes the decay of matrix coefficients of irreducible unitary representations of two non-split exceptional simple algebraic groups over a \(p\)-adic field, namely \(^2\mathbf{E}^2_{6,4}\) and \(\mathbf{E}^9_{7,4}\) in Tits' notation [\textit{J. Tits}, ``Classification of algebraic semisimple groups'', Proc. Symp. Pure Math., Vol. 9, 33, AMS, Providence, RI (1966; Zbl 0238.20052)]. He proves that \[ p\big(^2\mathbf{E}^2_{6,4}\big) = 8, \qquad p\big(\mathbf{E}^9_{7,4}\big) = \frac{26}{3}, \] and that the minimal representation is isolated in the unitary dual of \(\mathbf{E}^9_{7,4}\) endowed with the Fell topology.
