Let \((V,J,\omega)\) be a complex, projective manifold. On the one hand, one may define the Ruan-Tian invariants of \(V\), viewed as a symplectic manifold: these are invariants of its symplectic structure [\textit{Y. Ruan} and \textit{G. Tian}, J. Differ. Geom. 42, 259--367 (1995; Zbl 0860.58005)]. On the other hand, one may consider the enumerative invariants of \(V\), viewed as a complex manifold: these invariants count the number of algebraic curves with prescribed singularities which pass through subvarieties in general position. The author compares the Ruan-Tian to the enumerative invariants of \(V\). Many of the technical issues appear already in the author's previous papers [J. Differ. Geom. 65, 341--467 (2004; Zbl 1070.14053) and Geom. Topol. 9, 571--697 (2005; Zbl 1086.14045)].
