As the authors say, they ``consider the evolutionary compressible Navier-Stokes equations (NSE) in a two-dimensional perforated domain, and show that in the subcritical case of very tiny holes, the density and velocity converge to a solution of the evolutionary compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the non-perforated domain.'' The problem is mathematically challenging because of at least twofold difficulty: the presence of boundary layers (arising around the tiny holes) and the inherent technicalities appearing because of the choice of dimensionality of the spatial domain (it is not easy to find the good test functions if one handles the evolutionary compressible NSE in 2D).
