Let \(G\) be a connected complex semisimple Lie group, \(T\) a maximal torus in \(G\) and \(\Delta=\Delta(G,T)\) the associated root system. If \(T^ \vee=\hbox{Hom}(\pi_ 1(T),\mathbb{C}^ \times)\) is the dual torus and \(\Delta^ \vee=\{\alpha^ \vee\mid\alpha\in\Delta\}\) the dual root system, then there exists a connected complex semisimple Lie group \(G^ \vee\), called the dual group, such that \(\Delta^ \vee=\Delta(G^ \vee,T^ \vee)\). The author gives a ``construction'' of \(G^ \vee\) in terms of its rational representations which involves no choice of a maximal torus. He proceeds via sheaves on Grassmannians of loop groups. No proofs are given.
