A Perron number is an algebraic integer \(\lambda>1\) that is strictly greater than the absolute value of its other conjugates. The author has shown that these numbers are precisely the spectral radii of nonnegative integral matrices [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 4, 283-300 (1984; Zbl 0534.58030)]. In this paper, he shows that the spectral radius of an aperiodic matrix whose entries are all Perron numbers is itself a Perron number. The corresponding eigenvector is not unique, even if one insists that the entries are positive, and that there are no common Perron factors among the entries. However, he shows that one can choose an eigenvector for \(\lambda\) whose components are all at most \((rM)^{(rM)^{16r^ 3}}\), where \(r\) is the dimension of the matrix and \(M\) is the size of its largest element.
