    The classical theorem of dimension theory states that a proper surjection \(f: X\to Y\) between metrizable spaces with cardinality of \(f^{- 1}(y)\leq k\) for all \(y\in Y\) cannot raise the dimension of \(X\) by \(k\) or more, \(\dim Y\leq\dim X+k-1\). The authors note that \(k\) here is just an upper bound for rank of 0-dimensional cohomology groups of fibers \(f^{- 1}(y)\) and they prove the following generalization. Theorem: Let \(f:X\to Y\) be a proper surjection between metrizable spaces with \(\dim Y<\infty\). Assume that \(\text{rank } \check H^*(f^{- 1}(y);\mathbb{Z}) \leq\tau\) and \(\#\text{Tor } \check H^*(f^{-1}(y);\mathbb{Z}) \leq t\) for all \(y\in Y\). Then \(\dim Y\leq \tau t\dim X+(\tau t-1)\).
