A quantum oscillator algebra \(W_ q\) (where the parameter \(q\) is real positive) is generated by generators \(a\), \(a^ +\) and \(N\), which satisfy the following defining relations: \([a,N]=+a\), \([a^ +,N]=-a^ +\), \(aa^ +-qa^ +a=q^{-N}\), \((q\in\mathbb{R}_ +)\). The author considers representations of \(W_ q\) in some Hilbert space \(H\) by assuming \(a\), \(a^ +\) mutually adjoint and \(N\) selfadjoint with a discrete spectrum. He shows that representations of \(W_ q\) are different for the case \(q>1\) from the case \(q<1\). In the first case all representations have as limit the Fock representation when \(q\) goes to one. In the second case, there exists a lot of supplementary representations in which the spectrum of \(N\) is not bounded below and these representations have no limit at \(q=1\). At the end of the paper the author uses the new type of representations for giving representations of \(\text{SU}_ q(1,1)\) and \(E(2)\).
