The numerical range \(V(T)\) of a bounded linear operator \(T\) on a Banach space \(X\) is given by \[ V(T)= \bigl\{x^*(Tx): x\in X, x^*\in X^*, \| x^*\|=\| x\|=x^*(x)=1\bigr\}, \] where \(X^*\) denotes the dual space of \(X\). The main result of the paper is to give an example of a Banach space \(X\) such that the numerical radius \[ v(T)=\sup\bigl\{| \lambda|: \lambda\in V(T)\bigr\} \] attaining operators on \(X\) are not dense.
