In the framework of the author's program of braided geometry (study of braided-(co)commutative objects) a new mathematical concept of braided- Lie algebra is introduced. This is an object \(\mathcal L\) in a braided category equipped with a bracket \([, ]\) and a cocommutative coproduct (\(x \mapsto 1 \otimes x + x \otimes 1\) for an ordinary Lie algebra) obeying some axioms. The Jacobi identity is strongly modified and there is no analog of the skew-symmetry relation. Elementary theory of such objects is developed: construction of enveloping braided-bialgebra \(U({\mathcal L})\), correspondence between representations \(\mathcal L\) and \(U({\mathcal L})\), the regular action of a braided-Lie algebra by braided vector fields, the braided-Killing form and quadratic Casimir. These constructions recover the relevant notions for usual, colour and super-Lie algebras as special cases. But really new phenomena are obtained in a truly braided setting when braided-transposition \(\Psi\) or the Yang-Baxter operator does not have square 1. A matrix braided-Lie algebra associated with braided space (\(\equiv\) generic \(R\)-matrix) is the simplest example (ordinary vector space leads to the Lie algebra with zero bracket). In this case \(U({\mathcal L}) = B(R)\) the braided matrices introduced previously and closely related with the quantum deformations \(U_ q(g)\). So \(U_ q(g)\) is understood as the enveloping algebra of braided-Lie algebra \(\{l^ +Sl^ -\} \subset U_ q(g)\) with \([, ]\) given by the quantum adjoint action.
