The ``golden age'' of research on the foundation of probability in Italy has been preceded by several publications between 1900 and 1915. These show the following trends: there already exists a certain interest for the foundation problems, they differ in the possible resolutions by logical methods. The influence of the British logician George Boole (1815-1864) is remarkable, especially on Guiseppe Peano (1858-1931) and his pupil Paolo Pizzetti (1860-1918), and on Guiseppe Veronese (1854- 1917). But also the influence of some French mathematicians, as Joseph Louis François Bertrand (1822-1900) and Jules Henri Poincaré (1854- 1912), that of the German mathematician David Hilbert (1862-1943) on his pupil Ugo Broggi (1880--?) who criticized the system of Georg Bohlmann (1869-1928), that his first two axioms were not independent. A short outlook is given to the following years with the contributions of Guido Castelnuovo (1865-1952), Bruno de Finetti (1906-1985), Francesco Pablo Cantelli (1875-1966), Corrado Gini (1884-1965). 34 references.
