The paper deals with stiff nonlinear initial value problems solved by implicit linear multistep methods with a modified Newton process. The effect the stopping of the Newton iterations is studied. For stiff strongly nonlinear problems the order of the accumulated effect of all Newton stopping errors is greater than the order which can be expected.
