Coming from the differential calculus on quantum groups two approaches towards a \(q\)-deformation of quantum mechanics are given: one based on \(q\)-oscillator algebras, the other one arising from the \(q\)-differential calculus on involutive quantum planes and focussing on position-momentum interpretation of the generators of the \(q\)-differential algebra. Some interesting applications in statistical mechanics and in the theory of generalized hypergeometric series are presented. The computation of the Hochschild cohomology of a Weyl algebra shows that both approaches do not yield a non-trivial deformation of quantum mechanics.
