The main result of this paper is the following. Let \(G\) be a polycyclic group which is the product of two nilpotent groups \(A\) and \(B\) and which does not possess nontrivial finite normal subgroups. Then \([A,B]\leq F(G)\). In this case the metanilpotency (with given nilpotency classes) of \(G\) follows as well as a bound for the solubility length of the Frattini subgroup. For polycyclic groups \(G\) in general there is also a bound on the Hirsch length depending on the Hirsch lengths of \(A\) and \(B\).
