Let \(L^2_a\) be the Hilbert space of the functions analytic in the unit disk \(D\) of the complex plane satisfying the inequality \(\int_{|z|<1} |f(z) |^2 {dA(z) \over \pi} <\infty\) where \(dA(z)\) is the area measure. Denote by \(F\) the multiplication by \(z\) operator in \(L^2_a\), defined by \(F(f)=zf\), where \(z\) is the identity function. The aim of this paper is the study of the subspaces of \(L^2_a\) \(I\) invariant under \(F\). The main result is the following theorem. If \(M\subset L^2_a\) is an invariant subspace under \(F\), then \(M= [M\Theta zM]\). Here \([S]\) denotes the smallest invariant subspace containing the set \(S\).
