Let \((\Omega, d)\) be a compact metric space and \({\mathcal D}(\Omega)\) the family of upper semicontinuous fuzzy sets defined on \(\Omega\). The authors show that \({\mathcal D}(\Omega)\) provided with the sendograph metric \(H\) has the fixed point property. Furthermore, they show that \(({\mathcal D}(\Omega),H)\) is an absolute retract if \(\Omega\) is a finite union of locally connected continua.
