The authors derive a Roe-type Riemann solver for nonconservative systems and apply it to Favre-averaged compressible Navier-Stokes equations. They present two numerical experiments, the first one for the Sod shock tube problem, and the second one for the symmetric double shock problem. The first test case demonstrates the monotonic behaviour of the method as well as its capability of respecting analytically obtained Riemann invariants. The second test case underlines the fact that esentially Euler-based methods, which decouple the turbulent wave system from the aerothermodynamic system, can lead to significant oscillations. The method proposed by the authors captures adequately the wave propagation.
