The Bergman kernel function \(K_\Omega(z,w)\) associated to \(\Omega\) is the reproducing kernel for the Bergman projection \(P\), \[ P:h\in L^2 (\Omega)\to \int_\Omega K_\Omega (z,w)h(w)dV_w\in H^2(\Omega). \] Let \(\Omega_1\) and \(\Omega_2\) be two bounded domains in \(\mathbb{C}\) and let \(f\) be a proper holomorphic mapping of \(\Omega_1\) onto \(\Omega_2\). Then it is known that the Bergman kernel functions are transformed under proper holomorphic mappings due to the formula \[ \sum^m_{j=1} K_{\Omega_1} (z,F_j(w)) \overline{\text{Det} (F_j')(w)}=K_{\Omega_2} \bigl(f(z),w\bigr) \text{Det} (f')(z), \] where \(F_j\), \(j=1, \dots,m\), are \(m\) local inverses to \(f\) on \(\Omega_2\backslash V\), \(V= \{f(z):\text{Det}(f')(z)=0\}\). The authors are interested to derive a similar transformation rule for the Szegö kernel function \(S_\Omega(z,w)\) associated to \(\Omega\), which is the reproducing kernel for the Szegö projection \(Q\), \[ Q:h\in L^2(\partial \Omega)\to \int_{\partial\Omega}S_\Omega (z,w)h(w)d \sigma (w)\in H^2 (\partial\Omega). \] They derive such a transformation formula in different special cases for proper holomorphic mappings \(f\) and domains \(\Omega_1\) and \(\Omega_2\).
