The paper investigates the rotational motion of a rigid body undergoing Newtonian gravitational torque. The inertia ellipsoid is reduced to \(A+B=C\) which means, for the fixed main body axes, \(z=0\) (plate or disk extended in the \(x\)-\(y\)-plane). The motion is originally governed by Euler's gyroscopic equations (three first-order differential equations) and by the corresponding kinematic equations (three first-order differential equations), along with three first integrals (constant value of unit vector, energy conservation, and vertical momentum conservation). These are combined with two essential second-order differential equations, referring for derivation to a previous contribution: \(\ddot p _2 + p_2 = \mu^2 F(p_2, \dot p _2, \gamma_2, \dot \gamma _2,\mu)\), \(\ddot \gamma _2 + \gamma_2= \mu^2 \Phi(p_2, \dot p _2, \gamma_2, \dot \gamma _2,\mu)\). Here \(\mu = c/r_o\) (\(r_o\) is the initial spin about fixed body \(z\)-axis, and \(c^2\) is proporional to (part of) gravitational torque over moment of inertia with respect to the mass center) represents a small parameter used for perturbation power series expansion for the solution, for the frequency and for the period (Lindstedt/Poincaré method). The analytical solution expansion is obviously truncated for order higher than 2 while retaining second-order terms for period adjustment (not very clear from the paper). The comparison with numerical solutions for \(p_2\) and \(\gamma_2\) from the above differential equations shows a good agreement.
