On automorphisms and isomorphisms of quasi-simple Lie algebras (Q1580388)

A classification of the root systems of the irreducible quasi-simple Lie algebras of elliptic type \(L\) is given in [\textit{R. Høegh-Krohn} and \textit{B. Torresani}, J. Funct. Anal. 89, 106-136 (1990; Zbl 0792.17019)]. This paper is concerned with the automorphisms and isomorphisms of these algebras. Of the many results we will list several. Of central importance is the core of L, which is the subalgebra generated by the root spaces for the nonisotropic roots. A main theorem is the invariance of cores under isomorphism. This result is used in the investigation of the automorphism group of certain of these algebras. It is then shown that certain non-isomorphic maximal tame quasi-simple Lie algebras have isomorphic automorphism group.
