It is shown that the null controllability of the heat equation can be obtained as a singular limit of the exact controllability of singularly perturbed damped wave equations, under a more general geometric control condition than that of [the second author, \textit{A. López} and \textit{E. Zuazua}, J. Math. Pures Appl. (9) 79, 741-808 (2000; Zbl 1079.35017)].
