The authors study the sets of extreme, (weak\(^{\ast}\)-)exposed, and (weak\(^{\ast}\)-)strongly exposed points of the unit ball of spaces of \(n\)-homogeneous integral polynomials and \(n\)-fold symmetric tensor products. They show Šmul'yan type theorems for these spaces in terms of differentiability of the norm and give several applications: When the Banach space \(E\) has the Radon-Nikodym property then the spaces of \(n\)-homogeneous integral and nuclear polynomials on \(E\) are isometrically isomorphic for each positive integer \(n\). If the dimension of \(E\) and \(n\) are both at least 2 then the space of \(n\)-homogeneous continuous polynomials on \(E\) is neither smooth nor rotund. For a certain class of reflexive Banach spaces the space of \(n\)-homogeneous approximable polynomials is either reflexive or is not isometric to a dual Banach space. The authors conclude the paper with a Choquet theorem.
