Let \(C\) be a complex genus 2 curve which is a degree \(n\) cover \(\psi_1\) of the elliptic curve \(E_1\), \(\psi_1 : C \longrightarrow E_1\). As both curves allow a (hyper)elliptic involution the map \(\psi_1\) induces a map \(\phi_1\) which is a degree \(n\) map between Riemann spheres. The map \(\phi_1\) is called a ``Frey-Kani cover''. In the present paper the author calculates all possible ramification data for such a map \(\phi_1\). If furthermore \(\psi_1\) is maximal there exists a cover \(\psi_2 :C \longrightarrow E_2\) such that there is a degree \(n^2\) isogeny from the Jacobian \(J(C)\) to \(E_1 \times E_2\) (with \(E_2\) being canonically determined for odd \(n\)). \(J(C)\) is then called \((n,n)\)-decomposable and the author calculates explicit examples for \(n=2,3,7\).
