Let \(\Omega \) be a bounded open set in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\) and let \(\Omega _{s}\subseteq \Omega ,\) \(s=1,2,\dots ,\) be a sequence of open subsets. The asymptotic behaviour of solutions of the Dirichlet problem for higher order nonlinear elliptic equations: \[ \sum_{|\alpha |\leq m}(-1)^{|\alpha |}D^{\alpha }a_{\alpha }(x,u_{s},\dots ,D^{m}u_{s})=0,\quad x\in \Omega _{s}, \] \[ D^{\alpha }u_{s}(x)=D^{\alpha }f(x),\quad |\alpha |\leq m-1,\;x\in \partial \Omega _{s}, \] is studied. Geometrical assumptions on the structure of the sets \(\Omega \backslash \Omega _{s}\) are avoided. The maps \(a_{\alpha }(x,\xi)\) satisfy some stronger conditions than usually considered for higher order elliptic equations. The strong convergence of the sequence \(u_{s}(x)\) in \(W_{p',q'}^{m,1}(\Omega)\) for \(p'<p\) and \(q'<q\) is proved. Moreover, a corrector for the approximation of \(u_{s}(x)\) in \(W_{p,q}^{m,1}(\Omega)\) as well as a boundary value problem for the limit function are constructed. Besides the method of asymptotic expansions which was developed in \textit{I. V. Skrypnik} [Sb. Math. 187, No. 8, 1229-1260 (1996; Zbl 0874.35012)], some new pointwise estimates are used and proved in the paper.
