The authors study the decay properties of the wave equation \(\partial_t^2u-\triangle u=0 \) under initial conditions \(u(0,x)=u_0(x)\), \(\partial_tu(0,x)=u_1(x)\). The main goal is to study the weighted Sobolev spaces in \(\mathbb R^n\) generated by the Lie algebra of vector fields \((1+|x|^2)^{1/2}\partial_{x_j}\), \(j=1,...,n\). Interpolation properties and Sobolev embeddings are obtained on the basis of a suitable localization in \(\mathbb R^n\). As an application the authors derive weighted \(L^q\) estimates for the solution of the homogeneous wave equation. A generalization to the weighted Strichartz estimate for inhomogeneous wave equation established in [\textit{V. Georgiev, H. Lindblad, Ch. D. Sogge}, Am. J. Math. 119, No.~6, 1291-1319 (1997; Zbl 0893.35075)] is discussed. As well global existence results for the supercritical semilinear wave equation with non-compact small initial data in these weighted Sobolev spaces are shown.
