The so-called Brauer height zero conjecture is a theorem when \(p\)-solvable groups are dealt with; this is proved by Gluck and Wolf. The proof relies on Proposition 12.9 of the book ``Representations of solvable groups'' by \textit{O. Manz} and \textit{T. R. Wolf} (Cambridge University Press, 1993; Zbl 0928.20008). Such a proposition does not exist for a \(p\)-modular character. Some is rescued however. The following is shown here, resting heavily on results of transitively permuting vectors in a finite dimensional vector space over a finite field, as presented in the book mentioned above. Theorem. Suppose \(N\) is a normal subgroup of \(\mathcal G\), \(\theta\) an irreducible Brauer character of \(N\), and for any \(\chi\in\text{IBr}_p({\mathcal G}\mid\theta)\) the number \(\chi(1)/\theta(1)\) is a \(\pi'\)-number where \(\pi\) is a set of primes. Suppose \({\mathcal G}/N\) is solvable. Then the following holds. (a) If \(p\) does not divide \(|{\mathcal G}/N|\) and \(N\) is \(p\)-solvable, then \({\mathcal G}/N\) contains an Abelian \(\pi\)-Hall subgroup; consequently the \(\pi\)-length of \({\mathcal G}/N\) is at most 1. (b) Assume in addition to the general hypothesis that \(p\) does not belong to \(\pi\). Then \(\pi\)-factors of any \(\pi\)-series from \(\mathcal G\) to \(N\) are Abelian; the group \({\mathcal G}/N\) contains an Abelian-by-metabelian \(\pi\)-Hall subgroup, thus \(\ell_\pi({\mathcal G}/N)\leq 3\); in case \({\mathcal G}/N\) is of odd order, then \({\mathcal G}/N\) contains a metabelian \(\pi\)-Hall subgroup, thus \(\ell_\pi({\mathcal G}/N)\leq 2\). The proof of part (a) of the Theorem uses work of \textit{I. M. Isaacs} [from Pac. J. Math. 53, 171-188 (1974; Zbl 0288.20011) and J. Algebra 51, 476-490 (1978; Zbl 0374.20011)].
