The author considers the half-linear difference equation \[ \Delta(r_k \Delta| y_k|^{\alpha-1} \text{sgn\,}\Delta y_k)+ p_k| y_k+ 1|^{\alpha- 1}\text{sgn\,}y_{k+1}= 0,\quad \alpha> 1. \] By using the so-called roundabout theorem some nonoscillation comparison theorems are established. Also, by using the telescoping principle some comparison oscillation theorems are investigated. Some explicit sufficient conditions for strong oscillation are given in the case when \(\sum^\infty_j p_j< \infty\) and \(\sum^\infty_ j r^{1-\beta}_j= \infty\). To illustrate the main oscillation results the author considers the generalized half-linear Euler difference equation \[ \Delta(\phi(\Delta y_k))+ {\gamma\over (k+1)^\alpha} \phi(y_{k+1})= 0,\quad \alpha> 1 \] and proves that every solution is oscillatory if \(\gamma> (\alpha-1/\alpha)^\alpha\) which can be considered as the generalization condition \(\gamma> 1/4\) for the Euler linear difference equation \[ \Delta^2 y_k+{\gamma\over (k+1)^2} y_{k+1}= 0. \]
