The fuzzy dynamical (recurrent) systems studied here deal with the linguistic modeling of discrete dynamical systems of the form \(x(k+1)=f(x(k), u(k))\); \(y(k)=g(x(k),u(k))\). The model of the system is realized in the form of ``if-then'' rules involving fuzzy sets (linguistic terms) defined in the input, state, and output space. The authors discuss relationships between this category of fuzzy models and fuzzy automata. Next, following the classical definitions of chaos in the sense of Li and Yorke as well as Devaney, they characterize the chaotic character of recurrent fuzzy systems. The paper provides sufficient conditions that allow detecting or excluding chaotic behavior in such fuzzy systems.
