    The paper deals with the discrete Hamiltonian system \[ J\begin{pmatrix} 0 & -I_n \\ I_n & 0 \end{pmatrix}\Delta y(t)-Q(t)\begin{pmatrix} x(t+1) \\ u(t) \end{pmatrix} = \lambda W(t)\begin{pmatrix} x(t+1) \\ u(t) \end{pmatrix}, \quad t =1,2,\dots, \eqno(1) \] where \(\lambda\) is a complex parameter, \(y(t) = \begin{pmatrix} x(t) \\ u(t) \end{pmatrix}\) is a \(2n \times 1\) matrix, \(x(t), u(t) \in C^n,\) \(\Delta y(t) = y(t+1)-y(t),\) \(I_n\) is the identity matrix, \(Q(t)\) and \(W(t)\) are \(2n \times 2n\) complex-valued Hermitian matrices. Conditions for limit-point \((n)\) case for (1) are given. If \(W = diag(I_n, 0),\) the lower bound of the essential spectrum of (1) with self-adjoint boundary condition \(\alpha y(0) = 0\) is proved. Sufficient conditions for the presence of a pure point spectrum are obtained.
