The authors consider a linear strongly damped wave equation with a dynamical boundary conditions as an alternative modeling for the classical spring-mass-damper ODE. After defining the appropriate function spaces and putting the problem in an abstract setting, they use a semigroup method to establish an existence and uniqueness result of strong solutions. They also prove, for \(\varepsilon \) small enough (large mass \(m\)), the existence of a subset of two simple dominant eigenvalues and that, in this case, the solutions of the PDE can be approximated by the solutions of the ODE as \(t\rightarrow \infty\).
