Let \(M\) be a smooth manifold of real dimension \(2n + d\), endowed with a CR structure \(H^{1,0} \subset T^{\mathbb C} M\) of complex dimension \(n\). For any \(p\in M\) and any local diffeomorphism \(F: M \to M\), let us denote by \(Gr_p\) the Grassmannian given by the \(n\)-dimensional complex subspaces of \(T_p^{\mathbb C}M\) and by \(\mu_p(F)\) the element of \(Gr_p\) defined by \(\mu_p(F) = (F^{-1})_*(H^{1,0}_{F(p)})\in Gr_p\). It turns out that if \(V \subset {\mathbb R}^d\) is a local abelian Lie group of local diffeomorphisms of \(M\), with orbits transversal to the CR distribution \(H^{1,0}\), the correspondence \(V \to \mu_p(V)\) determines a smooth map between the open neighborhood of the origin \(V \subset {\mathbb R}^d\) and \(Gr_p\). The authors call extendable actions the local transversal actions of \(V \subset {\mathbb R}^d\) such that, for any \(p\in M\), the map \(\mu_p: V \to Gr_p\) can be extended to a holomorphic map defined on an open neighborhood of the origin of \({\mathbb C}^d\). In this paper, the authors show that if a CR manifold \(M\) admits a local extendable action, then it is locally embeddable into \({\mathbb C}^{n+d}\). Moreover, in case \(M\) is of hypersurface type (i.e. \(d = 1\)), the authors call semi-extendable any local transverse action of \({\mathbb R}\) for which the map \(\mu_p\) extends to a holomorphic map only on an open set of the half-plane \(\{\text{Im}(z) >0\} \subset {\mathbb C}\). If \(M\) admits a a semi-extendable action of \(\mathbb R\), they show that it is realizable as the boundary of a complex manifold. Finally, about strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds of dimension \(2n+1\), they show that, for any \(n\), the existence of semi-extendable local \(\mathbb R\)-action is a necessary and sufficient condition for the embeddability as hypersurface in \({\mathbb C}^n\).
