This paper presents a number of results on \(\theta\)-groups. Let \(G\) be a connected, simply connected semisimple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. Let \(\mathfrak{g} = \bigoplus_{i\in{\mathbb Z}_m} {\mathfrak g}_i\) be a periodic grading of the Lie algebra of \(G\) and \(\theta\) the corresponding \(m\)th order automorphism. Write \(G_0\) for the connected subgroup of \(G\) corresponding to \({\mathfrak g}_0\). The grading is \(N\)-regular (respectively \(S\)-regular) if \({\mathfrak g}_1\) contains a regular nilpotent (respectively semisimple) element of \(\mathfrak g\). Among many other results, the author shows each connected component of \(Aut({\mathfrak g})\) contains at most one \(Int(\mathfrak g)\)-orbit consisting of automorphisms of order \(m\) that are either \(N\)-regular or \(S\)-regular and locally free. The author also proves that locally free \(S\)-regular gradings are \(N\)-regular. This is then used to show that such gradings admit a Kostant-Weierstrass section. Additionally, a formula for the \(dim({\mathfrak g}_i)\) is given in this case. Finally \(\overline{G \cdot {\mathfrak g}_1}\) is shown to be a normal complete intersection when \(\theta\) is \(S\)-regular or \(N\)-regular and the defining ideal is given.
