Motivated by the extensions of the work of \textit{J. Banaś} and \textit{A. Martinon} [Comput. Math. Appl. 47, No. 2--3, 271--279 (2004; Zbl 1059.45002)], which is based on a measure of non-compactness and fixed point theorem due to Darbo, the author, by using the Riemann-Liouville fractional integral operator, establishes an existence theorem for nonlinear quadratic integral equations of fractional orders, which according to the author arise in queuing theory and some problems in biology. These equations are studied in the Banach space of real functions, well defined and continuous on a bounded closed interval. The analysis of the problems, presented in this paper, is self-contained. The reviewer apparently believes that the book by \textit{K. S. Miller} and \textit{B. Ross} [An introduction to the fractional calculus and fractional differential equations (John Wiley and Sons, Inc., New York) (1993; Zbl 0789.26002)], may be of potential assistance to the author for investigations of the nature presented in this paper (however, the reference of this book is not mentioned in the present paper).
