Let \(G\) be a connected Lie group and let \(\{X_1,X_2,\dots, X_n\}\) be a basis for \(g\), its Lie algebra. Let \({\mathcal L}_X\) be the differential operator on compactly supported infinitely differentiable functions on \(G\) of the form: \(-\sum X_i^2-X\). If \(X\) is not 0, \({\mathcal L}_X\) is called a sub-Laplacian with drift. Let \(\{P_\lambda\}\) denote the spectral resolution of the identity of \(L^2(\lambda_G)\), where \(\lambda_G\) is a fixed left invariant Haar measure on \(G\). For \(M\) a bounded non-negative Borel function, the operator \(M({\mathcal L}_0)\) is defined as \(\int M(\lambda)dP_\lambda\) and is called the spectral operator associated to the spectral multiplier \(M\). Analogously, one defines spectral operators and spectral multipliers of \({\mathcal L}_X\). For \(\chi\) a non-trivial character of \(G\), if \(M({\mathcal L}_X)\) extends from \(L^2(\lambda_{G,\chi})\cap L^p (\lambda_{G,\chi})\) to a bounded operator on \(L^p(\lambda_{G,\chi})\) for some \(1\leq p\), then \(M\) is called a \(L^p(\lambda_{G,\chi})\) spectral multiplier of \({\mathcal L}_X\). For \(p\neq 2\), the authors show that for amenable \(G\), every such spectral multiplier extends to a bounded holomorphic function on a parabolic region in the complex plane. The region depends on \(p\) and on the drift. Other results are proved in the converse direction for the case of \(G\) having polynomial growth.
