Let \(G\) be a finite solvable group, let \(F(G)\) denote the Fitting subgroup and let \(\text{dl}(G/F(G))\) stand for the derived length of \(G/F(G)\). If \(\text{cs}(G)\) is the set of conjugacy class sizes of \(G\) and if \(\text{h}(G)\) is the Fitting height of \(G\), the author succeeds to prove (Theorem A) that there exist universal constants \(C_1,C_2\) such that for a finite solvable group \(G\), then \(\text{dl}(G/F(G))\leq C_1\log_2|\text{cs}(G)|+C_2\) and \(\text{h}(G)\leq C_1\log_2|\text{cs}(G)|+C_2+1\). The proof is long and complicate and depends on delicate results on orbit sizes obtained recently by the author. -- An example is also given to show that the logarithmic bound is the best possible.
