The numerical solution of the inverse problem of the finite Hill's differential equation, i.e. an eigenvalue problem is examined. An error estimate for Newton's method is given. The author restricts himself to Mathieu's differential equation. A complete error analysis including the rounding errors is performed. Numerical examples are given and discussed.
