The aim of this paper is to prove, in the category of algebraic groups, analogues of the well known imprimitivity and decomposition theorems of Mackey for locally compact groups [cf. \textit{G. W. Mackey}, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 35, 537-545 (1949; Zbl 0035.069)]. The authors discuss the notions of induced modules and homogeneous fiber bundles in the general framework of group functors and sheaves [in the sense of \textit{M. Demazure} and \textit{P. Gabriel}, ''Groupes algébriques'', Vol. I; ''Géométrie algébrique. Généralités. Groupes commutatifs'' (1970; Zbl 0203.234)]. Criteria for induced modules and decomposition theorems for induced modules of algebraic group schemes are given in special situations, partly generalizing previous work. Two of the applications deal with the thickening of the Borel subgroup, the Steinberg representation, and the Anderson-Haboush tensor identity from which the Kempf vanishing theorem can be deduced [cf. \textit{H. H. Andersen}, Ann. Math., II. Ser. 112, 113-121 (1980; Zbl 0421.20016); \textit{W. J. Haboush}, Invent. Math. 56, 109-112 (1980; Zbl 0432.14027); \textit{G. Kempf}, Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér., IV. Ser. 14, 61-76 (1981; Zbl 0466.20017)].
