The paper contains the extension of some results of \textit{J. M. Ash} and \textit{G. V. Welland} [(*) Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 163, 401-436 (1972; Zbl 0233.42014)]. In the following \(R_ N\) stands for Euclidean N-dimensional space, \(x=(x_ 1,...,x_ N)\in R_ N\), \(m=(m_ 1,...,m_ N)\), \(k=(k_ 1,...,k_ N)\in R_ N\), \(m_ i\), \(k_ i\) are nonnegative integers. The symbol \(m\to \infty\) means \(m_ i\to \infty\) for each \(i=1,...,N\), further \(m\geq k\) stands for \(m_ i\geq k_ i (i=1,...,N)\). Let \(A=(a_{m,k})\) be a multiplicative matrix, \(\{S_ k(x)\}\) be a multiple sequence of functions defined on a set \(E\subset R_ N\). In the paper the following question is investigated: Assume that for each \(x\in E\) we have \(\lim S_ k(x)=S(x),\quad | S(x)|<+\infty.\) Does there exist a set \(D\subset E\) such that \((1)\quad \lim \sigma_ m(x)=S(x),\) where \(\sigma_ m(x)=\sum_{k}S_ k(x)a_{m,k}?\) If A is a regular matrix, then the condition \((2)\quad \sup_{k\geq 0}| S_ k(x)|<+\infty\) (\(x\in D)\) implies (1). Therefore it is convenient to ask under which assumptions about \(\{S_ k(x)\}\) the condition (2) is satisfied and to characterize the sets D. This is done in the paper. In the particular case when \(\{S_ k(x)\}\) denotes the sequence of partial sums of a multiple trigonometric series similar questions are investigated in (*).
