In recent years it has become apparent that the number 64 is exceptional in the theory of translation planes. Many results on the theory are either not true or questionable for translation planes of order 64. This interesting article exhibits three such planes, each with kernel GF(8) and having a collineation group of order 64 in its linear translation complement. Two of the planes have an affine elation group of order 16. This is in contrast to the situation of odd order planes; a translation plane of dimension 2 over its kernel GF(q), q odd, with a collineation group of order \(q^ 2\) in its linear translation complement must have an affine elation group of order q or \(q^ 2\).
