We use Hamilton's parabolic Einstein equation to study the well-known Calabi conjecture in Kähler geometry. We prove that on a compact Kähler manifold M if the first Chern class \(C_ 1(M)\) is either negative or zero, then one can deform certain initial Kähler metrics along the heat equation to the limiting Kähler Einstein metrics (We remark that Yan first proved the Calabi conjecture in 1976 by studying complex Monge-Ampère equations). When \(C_ 1(M)\) is positive we show that the solution to the parabolic equation exists for all time, which is not known in Riemannian case even if we assume that the initial metric has nonnegative curvature operator.
