Let T be a commutative n-tuple of linear bounded operators on a Hilbert space. The quality of T to be Fredholm is interpreted as a Tor- intersection condition between two Banach modules over the algebra of entire functions in n variables. This observation leads to an enlarged framework for the multidimensional Fredholm theory. Among the notions and results obtained in this way: -a generalized Fredholm index, which is the intersection number, in a precise homological sense, between a coherent sheaf and the ''n-tuple T'', -stability and transformation properties for this index, -a relation between the usual index(f(T)) and the intersection number between the analytic set \(f^{-1}(0)\) and ''T'', where f is a holomorphic function defined in a neighbourhood of Taylor's joint spectrum of T, -a base change theorem for analytic parametrized Fredholm complexes, under analytic maps.
