A method is presented for a numerical solution of the multichannel scattering problem with a large number of closed channels (\(\sim 300)\). The scattering problem is reduced to a nonlinear functional equation which is subsequently solved using the continuous analog of Newton method. The efficiency of the approach is demonstrated by solving the one-channel scattering problem for which an analytic solution exists and a multichannel problem arising in the consideration of inelastic collisions in a three-body system. In particular, the scattering cross sections of tritium mesic atoms in the singlet and triplet states of the hyperfine structure including the spin-flip cross sections are calculated.
