Two-dimensional wave problems in the high frequency limit of weakly dispersive spectral representations are treated in general. Scalar wave equation is assumed to be separable in curvilinear coordinates. Turning rays, caustics and creeping (cord) rays are encountered in inhomogeneous medium. Green's function from impulsive line source is determined in a point receiver by Cagniard-de Hoop method of inversion, alternatively by interchanging the frequency and spatial spectral integral following Chapman and, by a new complex integration scheme combining the advantages of both procedures. The latter is called a spectral theory of transients and e.g. is applicable to phenomena with multiple rays.
