In analogy with weak \(L^ 1\), the smallest rearrangement invariant set containing BMO over a cube may be considered as weak \(L^{\infty}\). This makes it possible to obtain new interpolation theorems of Marcinkiewicz type, not only for \(L^ p\) spaces but also in an abstract setting. A recent paper on this theme is one by \textit{J. Peetre} [''On weak type interpolation'', Technical Report LTH, 1983:6, Lund, per revr.,].
