A modified pseudo-arclength method is proposed for the continuation along solution branches of a parameter-dependent nonlinear equation \(G(u,\lambda)=0\), [see the author's paper in SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 23, 1007-1016 (1986; reviewed above)]. This continuation method is used in the program PLTMG for solving a general class of second order boundary value problems in divergence form depending on a parameter. Some features of the underlying multigrid method are described. Three numerical examples illustrate the robustness and efficiency of the algorithm.
