The author introduces some new concepts such as: 'multifactorial function', 'multifactorial fuzzy set', etc. These concepts can be illustrated by the following example. Let A, B be two fuzzy sets over \(U_ x\), \(U_ y\) respectively. Then the usual cartesian product \(C=A\times B\) over \(U_ x\times U_ y\) can be understood as a multifactorial fuzzy set, i.e., \(\mu_ C(x,y)=f(\mu_ A(x),\mu_ B(y))\) where f is an appropriate multicritical function, in our case the function 'minimum'. Using the above concepts, we can define the multifactorial degree of nearness on pairs of m-tuples of fuzzy sets. The latter concept can be used for performing multifactorial pattern recognition.
