S. Mazur (1905-1981) was a leading member of the Polish school of the 1930s which explored the properties of Banach and other topological vector spaces. The author gives a detailed survey of Mazur's results on dimensionality, convexity, separation, ergodic theory, normed algebras, polynomial maps and summability. He provides a few short proofs and comments on recent progress on outstanding problems. A bibliography lists Mazur's publications, results in books by other authors and results presented at meetings (1928-38, 1946-48), as well as related work by other investigators.
