Previously the first two authors have shown that iterative solutions of pseudo-spectral equations (i.e. collocation on a Gauss-Lobatto-Chebyshev grid) by low-order finite element preconditioning can improve the solution algorithm for multidimensional problems (second order elliptic). In this paper, the preconditioning is used in the static condensation stage of an isoparametric spectral element discretization in order to grow the efficiency of solution algorithms. As an example, the Poisson equation with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on a distorted rectangular domain is considered.
