The authors prove that one-dimensional random potentials with purely absolutely continuous band spectrum of the following type are almost periodic: The spectrum \(\Delta\subset {\mathbb{R}}\) \(+\) is required to be: \({\mathbb{R}}\) \(+\setminus \Delta =\cup_{i}(\lambda_ i,\mu_ i)\) and there exist mutually disjoint intervals \((\alpha_ i,\beta_ i)\) such that \[ (\alpha_ i,\beta_ i)\supset (\lambda_ i,\mu_ i);\quad \sum_{i}K_ i(\mu_ i-\lambda_ i)/(\beta_ i-\alpha_ i)<\infty \quad for\quad K_ i\equiv 1\quad and\quad K_ i\equiv \lambda_ i,\text{ for all } i; \] and sup \((\beta_ i-\alpha_ i)<\infty\). These conditions, though quite general, cannot handle the absolutely continuous Cantor spectrum. The authors also obtain sufficient conditions, on a general one- dimensional random potential, for the Lyapunov exponent to decay at a given rate (in the L 1 sense) at infinity.
